Spam deterence: Prevention better than cure?

This is at least my third attempt (since 2011) to learn to use WordPress. Newest annoyance is a spam comment. Yes, the filtering worked, but I still received a highly annoying email notification and wasted some time assessing the situation, including searches of the support and forums webpages.

Wouldn’t it be better if the spammers’ efforts were nipped in the bud? Therefore I would like to ask if these two constructive suggestions have been considered, and if so, what happened to them:

    (1) Make it clear up front that comments are moderated so the wannabe spam will never be seen. Or maybe there is a way to set my new blog to respond that way to probable comment spam before the final submission step? Perhaps earlier triggering of the filter to force an extra step during submission of a comment?

    (2) Give me a tool so I can help go after the spammers and make sure they NEVER receive any money from their spamming. Essentially, I would like a way to voluntarily donate a bit of my time to help analyze the spam for more accurate countermeasures. Especially in the case of phishing scams, the most effective countermeasures quite often depend on my knowledge of personal information that WordPress should not even know. For example, a typical Bayesian filter can only guess that a new phishing scam that references a particular bank seems to resemble prior spam, but I can absolutely know that I do NOT have any account at that bank, which should be strong evidence for the spamminess of the same spam sent to other people.

By the way, I’m still (obviously) wrestling with the learning curve for WordPress, and I suspect that I’m mostly failing to understand how to effectively search the support.wordpress.com and forums.wordpress.com webpages. That suggests the search function could use some improvement, which to me leads back to the question of funding models… I would actually prefer to fund the features I want to use, which in this context means I wish there were some way I could help fund the development and ongoing costs for better search of the existing content. (My joke at this point is ADSAuPR, atAJG, which stands for “Additional Detailed Suggestions available upon Polite Request, as the Ancient Joke Goes”, but in this specific case I want to throw my money at the problem. In moderation, of course, since I’m not wealthy.)

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

And I wish I could fix that typo… Yet another feature I wish I could support with my limited money?
