Spam email?

  • Unknown's avatar

Hallo, i received an email which is addressed to Matt Mullenweg, to verify my email adress. It says:

    Dear Matt Mullenweg,

We noticed that you still need to verify your email address. ICANN requires that we temporarily put your website on hold if you fail to verify your address.* Please take care of it right away to avoid disruption of services.

All you need to do is click the button below (it only takes a few seconds). You won’t be asked to log in to your WordPress.com account — we’re simply verifying ownership of this email address.

Is this a spam or do I need to confirm?
    Thanks for a quick answer

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there!

That is very strange! That should definitely have been addressed directly to you or something along the lines of “Valued Customer.” I have no idea why that is happening. I have put this in front of the folks who handle our e-commerce, and as soon as I have some information about what is going on here I’ll let you know!

    Hiya,

I just sent you an email directly to the address which we have on file for you. If you could please read that and get back to me I would appreciate it! Thanks so much. :)

I’ve seen the same thing with a client of mine. The email is (supposedly) coming from (email visible only to moderators and staff), but the link points back to securepaynet.net.

In case it’s relevant, his blog (www.lasvegasvalleys.com) was moved from WordPress.com over to a self-hosted solution about two months ago.

@robertfgillmer – Here’s some information about the emails coming from secureserver.net.

    Register a New Domain

Please have your client respond to this email. If they do not, their domain will be deactivated.

All they have to do is click on the “Verify your email address” button in the email.

so it is a valid e-mail? not a spam…. for i also had the same e-mail going to my mailbox.

If it looks like the one in the screenshot at the link I gave above, then yes. It is a valid email and you must respond in order to confirm your ownership of the domain.
