Spam getting through

I’ve been very pleased with Askimet since I started my blog a few months ago. Until today I think only 1 or 2 spam comments got through to my blog, and Askimet has caught nearly 300 spam comments. But just in the last hour and a half, two spam comments appeared on my blog. That’s so unusual I wanted to mention it. Please, please, Askimet, don’t fail us now!! :)

You probably don’t realize it but you are blessed. Many of us are marking over 200 spams per day on a single blog and many of us have more than one blog.
It is us bloggers who are faithfully marking “spam” instead of just deleting these items that educates Akismet. Therefore we must be faithful too and not fail Akismet. ;) -
Please mark the comment as spam and send it through. That way Akismet learns about it.
I’ve got to admit that I’m shaking my head about your complaining. 1 or 2 spams getting through within 3 months for you I would think would be pretty good, not something to complain about.

I’m sorry — I didn’t mean it as complaining. Sorry to have bothered you with it. As I said, since it was unusual I thought I would mention it in case there was some kind of glitch. I did mark the comments as spam and did not just delete them.

If you want to avoid the wrath of spammers, never blog about anything having to do with porn. One mention of anything porn or porn star, those porn spam bots will find you.

nosy’s right I’m living proof. I wrote an anti-porn blog article and spoke out against porno blogs being considered in the “top blogs” and “top posts” on the forum. Thereafter, my environmental blog and the blog I wrote in were invaded by bots and got lambasted with porno spam every day. I think I’ve used the Porn tag a couple of dozen tags for my post. Perhaps as a result I have seven pages of spam to delete today, but as Akismet is pretty damn good about catching it, I don’t mind. I can only recall a couple of Mr. Skin comments getting through in the past three months or so.

I was almost sued by a former gay male porn star the other week because of something I posted. lol Now we’re friendly and I email him asking him questions about John Holmes and Traci Lords. lol

Ya know, that Traci Lords is a smart girl. I respect her. I first saw her when I was switching channels and came across Whoopie Goldberg’s old talk show; she was interviewing some blonde about her charitable project, and I thought “for all that she’s Hollywood, that woman has a brain and she’s got it together.” It was Traci Lords. How is she doing nowadays?

Barb, not a problem. Some of us deal with 1.3 million spam attempts every day and dream about “1 or 2.”
