Spam Hits from "ranksonic.info" and "buttons-for-website.com"
-
Over the last week my blog has been getting between 3-10 hits a day from something called “ranksonic.info” which appears to be a spam site promising SEO maximization.
The blog has also been receiving hits over the same period from “buttons-for-website.com” which I see other posts have also been complaining about.
Can these two sites please be blocked? Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yes please block ranksonic.info. same applies to several hits to my blog thenashvillebridge.com

Anyone can visit any public blog. If you are getting spam comments then mark it as spam please. And know that marking spam referrers as spam referrers simply removes the reporting from your stats. It does not block them. See here https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/spam-referrer-reporting?replies=3

I have marked them as spam, and I am aware that marking them as spam does not block them. It is an ongoing problem, apparently not limited to my blog, which is why I posted here.

Hi again,
I’m sorry but there’s nothing Staff can do for you about this. The relevant support docs are:

install the google analytics plugin and make a block filter in google analytics. After that they wont show up

You can block access by referrer on your .htaccess file:
Here is a link which explains how to do this: -
No, you cannot. Don’t give technical answers when you don’t know what you’re talking about.
-
Dear Raincoaster,
instead of repeating the same annoying phrase it would be much more interesting if you explain the reason why “no we cannot”.
For example, words like “It could be a good idea, but sorry, you can’t modify the .htaccess file” would be very kind of you! :)“No you cannot” is something that should be used only with children of around 3-4 years old.
Regards.

Because you don’t have access to the .htaccess file on a WordPress.com blog.
You should be familiar with the software before you attempt to answer technical support questions in the forum, don’t you agree?

This is WordPress.COM. It is not WordPress.ORG. Read this comparison http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ and know what raincoaster says is 100% correct. -
timethief,
I realized this immediately after posting my comment.
And that’s the reason why I’ve said that phrase about the .htaccess file on my second post. Did you read it?
I’m not discussing here whether raincoster is right, because he is right. I’m discussing the way he said this, which to my taste could be written in a more gentle, polite and educated way.To fionamcquarrie I can only suggest to switch to a self hosted wordpress instance in order to have more flexibility in configuring things and filtering out unwanted accesses.

From the link provided from timethief:
“To mark them as spam, navigate to your “Referrers” section.
Each entry has a clickable ellipse next to the view count. (This works for all but a few whitelisted referrers, such as WordPress.com.)
When you click the ellipse, a red “Spam?” flag will appear. When you click the flag, the referrer link will go into your personal spam referrer block list and won’t show up in the future.”
Here is the problem, there is NO clickable elipse.

I am getting several Ranksonic.info refferers per day (all different links), and they are definitelty all spam. Today I have the following so far:
http://ranksonic.info/krawler.php?refToken=f039c4d1-e95b-47c3-8c90-c65a2cb48cf9
http://ranksonic.info/krawler.php?refToken=e52231ef-d690-4fc2-b33b-2aec83f61262
There is a little blue flag with “Spam?” link beside the +ranksonic.info Referrer entry but no such flag/link per URL if I click on the +ranksonic.info entry. And if I click on the little blue flag with “Spam?” beside it for the +ranksonic.info entry, all it does is expand the entry to show the individual URLs.
