Spam is off the rails

I would beg someone who can explain it all to me to take a look at my blog-site and read the very recent post called “Lots of help: only one answer”. Therein you will find the fourth and last screen-grab within that post to bear out the title of this cry for help.
It’s as if there’s some kind of vendetta against me in terms of spammers: I can’t possibly provide a percentage for the way in which spam has increased on my site in this current month.
I cannot work out how Akismet works. It is proudly telling me that it has missed nothing, when it has missed AT LEAST TEN in the last week.
I have sent email to this effect; perhaps someone there will answer …
Why do I have to keep emptying my dashboard “At a glance” of this garbage ? – why doesn’t Akismet do it for me ?
I really am totally lost. If this doesn’t stop, I may have to: the stress of it all is really weakening my fondness for it all.The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

This might be an obvious question, but are you just deleting the spam messages or are you sending them to spam so akismet can learn their evil ways….. ;)

I have the same question. So I shouldn’t delete the spam comments? (I’ve been constantly emptying the spam!)

Most successful long time blogs get hundreds of spam comments and even thousands that are caught by Akismet every day. Spamming is big money business. I’ve blogged for over 8 years now and I know spam is not going to go away ever.
The vast and overwhelming majority of all so-called information on the internet is spam. Over 80% of all so-called comments submitted to .wordpress.com blogs every day are spam. Spam comes in waves. There are human beings who get paid to post spam. There are robotic programs that post spam.

Aksimet is a learning engine. If you get spam that slips by Akismet then mark it as spam (do not delete it) and over time Akismet will learn it’s spam.
On the spam that Akismet catches on it takes only seconds to click “empty spam” and you don’t even have to click “empty spam” if you don’t want to. Akismet will maintain comments it has caught for 30 days from the time they were received, and then it will delete the comment automatically.
Set up comment moderation, if you have not already done so, because allowing anonymous commenting on your blog is like putting out the welcome mat for spammers.

I’m availing myself (now) of those Support pages.
Have come to the conclusion that if I could just pull my finger out and FIND THE RELEVANT SUPPORT PAGE, most of my suffering would never occur.

Hi – I joined WordPress last July – and, since then, my Spam stats have been at a hundred or less (usually less) per month. Suddenly, in the latter part of April, the Spam count has rocketed up to well over six hundred. I am very confused because some of the comments I read SEEM like genuine ones (but have one thing in common: broken, disjointed and often unintelligible English). My policy has been to delete the lot – but I am now really worried that I might be condemning another blogger’s real attempt at communicating with me to the Akismet file.
Two questions: why has the volume of Spam suddenly increased? And, how can I tell whether what I am receiving is a proper comment or not?
