Spam Likes

Hi
The past few days I’ve had a rash of Spam likes on my posts. They are clearly spam as all the gravatars have photos of young attractive girls, many of the likes use the same photo but have different names attached the gravatar.
I know I can turn off likes for all posts, but that means none of my regular readers can like a post either. Is there a way of turning off likes for individual posts until these low lifes get bored and jog on?
If not, is there now a way of blocking spam likes yet (it seems to have been an issue for some years when you read other posts on the same subject)?

Yes. In the post editor, you can turn off Likes on a per-post basis by clicking the Jetpack icon and unchecking “Show likes” in the menu: screenshot https://d.pr/i/QjYvez
However, the Like button will still appear in readers’ toolbars and in the WordPress.com Reader, so you might still get some likes that way.
Also, turning Likes off globally will only impact new posts – existing posts would still retain the Like button, so you would need to edit the individual posts as noted above to fully disable it.
But, spam likes are pretty innocuous compared to comment spam and as you said, they’ll eventually get bored. If certain user accounts abuse likes too much, we have systems in place to handle those as well.

Thank you so much! I’d read I could turn off the likes per post but couldn’t find the option – didn’t think to look under jetpak (I forget it’s even there).
The posts are on the subject of a dying parent, so it was a bit upsetting to me to be receiving spam on that particular subject.
Good to know if I turn off likes globally it will only affect new posts.

I can imagine! I went through the same with my dad and it’s tough. Make sure you take care of yourself!

They now can’t spam like my posts, so are now spam following my blog. Get a life people! I guess there is no way of stopping spam followers?

I’m sorry @bertieandme, is it the same individual? Is it possible they’re legitimately following because of similar life experiences?

Thank you! They are clearly spammers so it’s odd they haven’t been picked up by the antispam filters.

Happy to help, @bertieandme. I heard back from the Trust & Safety / TOS team, and they’ve asked me to create a private ticket for followup. I’ve just done that, so please watch for that and send any other info you have about the spammers and their patterns there.
