Spam on "Services" Page
-
Yes, I did read the section on spam comments. I seem to be making use of these things, getting email notifications, having to approve the comments etc. Perhaps there is something I’m missing.
Recently I seem to be getting an increasing amount of spam comments particularly on my “Services” page. It doesn’t make sense because this is a page that I haven’t updated in ages (I mostly blog personal stories). Is the title of the page attracting spam? Is there a way to discourage so much of it in the first place? Also, some comments seem like spam, but are less obvious. I don’t want to mark it as “spam” if it isn’t. I try clicking on the website of who sent it, and even then it isn’t always clear. Is there a good way to determine if questionable comments are spam or genuine?
Thanks so much for your help!

Hi!
Spammers can be tricky so occasionally, you might get an influx of spam that sneaks through Akismet, our spam filter. In fact, we had a record number of stats caught by Akismet in September so it looks like we’re seeing more spam than usual:
As to why the page is attracting spammers, there really isn’t a great answer. It could be due to a number of factors. The best defense would be to continue to mark comments as spam to train Akismet.
As to how to recognize spam as opposed to normal comments, I generally look at the site and email address. Normally, the email addresses will be completely abnormal (not from Gmail or something like that). The site will also normally appear spammy.
If you notice spam getting through that is obviously spam (not a legit) comment, you can reach out to our Akismet team here:
They’ll be able to troubleshoot moving forward!
