Spam or Not?

    I have a comment on one of my posts awaiting moderation, but I don’t know if it’s a spammer trying to get in. With my other comments I’ve received I can hover over their name etc and it brings up their blog, but with this comment it brings up a 404, and when I click on the Gravatar image, there is no blog even though it says ‘just a blog about…’. I even typed the name into Google but there is no such blog. Is this a spammer trying to get a comment accepted and then an open door for spamming me?

    Hi there,

    This is really your call. What is the content of the comment like? Is it actually commenting on what you wrote, or is it a bland “nice post” or “come follow my blog”? Those I just delete, rather than mark as spam, but if the commenter seems dodgy you can absolutely mark it as spam.

    If the comment is complete nonsense that has nothing to do with your post, mark it as spam.

    I’d also be happy to look at the comment itself if you want. Just give me a link to the post, and the username of the commenter and I’ll be able to see it in your dashboard.

    You can check IP and email for spam with google or here https://cleantalk.org/blacklists/
