Spam or something else..Please help.

  Hello! Last night and this morning, I had several comments on various posts in my blog., all with in a few hours of ane another. Some posts were from years ago. Most of them were in other languages…french, Italian, or arab. The comments had nothing to do with the post. Not sure what is going on..If it is Spam or a virus. Is there any way to fix this, or turn off commments all together? I have put most of the comments in the trash or deleted them…

  I’ve tagged this for Staff attention to note the issue.

  Akismet, the anti-spam software that we use on WordPressdotcom, is a learning machine. If the comments were spam and were in the Spam folder, then great. However, if the comments were spam and in your comment moderation queue or published and you’ve deleted them rather than marking them as spam, it won’t learn.

  Please don’t delete anything further until Staff have had a chance to look at the situation. Thanks.

  Also, if you don’t have comment moderation turned on, it would be a good idea to do so for now. https://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/#before-a-comment-appears

  Hi there

  If you click on My Sites > Settings (top left corner when you’re logged in on WordPress.com), then select the Discussion Tab, you’ll see all the Settings related to Comments. You can uncheck ‘Allow people to post comments on new articles’ which will disable comments for future posts. (https://en.support.wordpress.com/enable-disable-comments-for-future-posts-pages/)

  Another possible solution would be to enable ‘Comment must be manually approved’ under ‘Before a comment appears’ on the same settings page as described above.
