Spam pageview “stats”
-
I’ve noticed that an increasing number of my “pageviews” on the stats page are marked as coming from spam type sites like dating-online2u.blogspot.com/2010/04/… and buyingstocksonline.bloggerreviews.org… etc., sites which actually do not have links to my blog and therefore must be manipulating the stats feature somehow in an attempt to get me to click on the links. It’s gotten so it’s almost impossible for me to pick out actual legitimate pageviews, and the daily numbers mean absolutely nothing because well over half of them aren’t coming from anyone who is actually viewing my blog. If I ever hope to get advertisers on my blog etc. I need to have a real way to tell how many people are viewing my blog. Is there nothing to be done to prevent “fake page views” from clogging up my stats?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yup, good ol’ bots. The only way to overcome them is to have one of those randomly generated wonky password things.
Like that wont discourage people from reading your blog *sigh* -
Uh, no, that doesn’t work, actually.
These are a NEW kind of spam referrer and CAPTCHAs wouldn’t stop them. Copy the URLs and report them to staff, who will delete them from your stats. If you’re not sure, ask.
This has been an ongoing problem over the last few weeks and many dozens of people have reported it.

What is the exact procedure for reporting one of these URLs to staff? Is there a forum for it? Email? If so what address? Etc.

Since we did not get the URL of your blog, we don’t know if it’s hosted here on WordPress.COM or not. If it is, you may want to read this Support Doc about running ads on your WordPress.com blog http://en.support.wordpress.com/advertising/ And, as it says in that Support Doc, if you are in any doubt, contact Support directly for clarification.
It would be a shame to set up house here only to have your blog suspended because of a TOS violation.

Actually that’s not the blog I meant, and those aren’t advertisers, they’re links of relevant sites in graphic form, for which I’m not being paid. I haven’t read the advertising policy as I’m no where near needing it yet, but I’m a perfectly lawful individual and have no intention of trying to “get around” anything. Why would I do that?
Anyway, my point remains that I won’t even know when it’s appropriate to move until I know how many hits I’m actually getting. A sincere thanks for those who helped me by answering this question.
