Spam pop up ads

Hi! When people try to access my blog from mobile devices (experienced this myself, also happened to multiple friends all on iPhones), we get these crazy spam pop-up ads from happy.goodluckspace.com. There’s no way to close these ads, they seem like scams re: Apple handing out free iPhones, Amazon handing out free gift cards, etc. There is literally no way to get back to my blog unless you close the window and try again. This doesn’t happen to us on any other website we go to…just my blog here on WordPress. Would appreciate help with this matter, thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’m having this same problem too, it was just brought to my attention by a reader. We’ve tried it from both an android and an iPhone using the safari browser with the same issue.

    Blog is thedutchmilliners.wordpress.com

  • Hi –

Thanks for getting in touch. Does this happen when folks go to your site directly in their browser? Or when they click a link to it from another source, like a post shared on Facebook? Please share more details.

Also, please let me know the following.

    – phone type and operating system
    – browser type and version number
    – screen shot of the ad

Is there an option to “report this ad”? If so, use it.

The ads served by WordPress.com should never interfere with the content on your site.

This seems to be happening when I go directly to the site and from a link on my iPhone iOS 12.1 using the Safari browser and a friends android. It does not appear to happen from my iPad. I have just uploaded a screenshot into my media. There isn’t an option to report the ad when it occurs and it’s not popping up every time on my phone.

To echo bcredit there’s no option to report the ad..you literally can’t do anything but click on the ad or close the browser altogether when the ad does pop up. It happens when I go directly to the site from my iPhone on Safari, it happens to my husband when he goes from his iPhone on Chrome as well. Both iOS 12.1.

  • Hi there,

Please send us as much of the following info as possible via the form at https://en.support.wordpress.com/about-these-ads/:

    • Your device, browser and operating system.
    • Your IP address (you can find this by visiting whatismyip.com from the device where you’re seeing the ads
    • The exact URL of the page/post that showed the ad.
    • What was being advertised.
    • The URL that the ad takes you to.
    • If possible, a screenshot of the ad itself that hijacked the browser.

This is currently an issue across the entire ad industry. You can find more more information about similar problems here: https://www.wired.com/story/pop-up-mobile-ads-surge-as-sites-scramble-to-stop-them/

Providing this information will allow us to identify the advertisers that are placing the ads so we can remove them.
