Spam pop-up on android
-
Hi everyone,
Since yesterday I have a problem with my blog when I visit the posts from the facebook links. After a few seconds, a spam pop-up page (cloudfront.net) appears with a fake congratulation message.
I found the same problem in other blogs with wordpress free version. And it’s not just me, but other people who use android device told me the same thing.
Does it depend on my site or is it a general situation?
Thanks for the attentionThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi mattiamancini84,
So we can look into this further, it would be great if you could reply with the following information:
- Your device, browser and operating system (that information can be found on supportdetails.com)
- Your IP address (also available on supportdetails.com)
- The exact URL of the post or page that is showing the ad
- The URL that the ad redirects you to
- A screenshot of the ad itself — this can be uploaded to your Media Library
I have a problem with my blog when I visit the posts from the facebook links.
Does this only happen when clicking on links to djedmedu.wordpress.com shared on Facebook, not when visiting the site directly?
Does it depend on my site or is it a general situation?
This is an issue affecting the whole ad industry at the moment. There is more information here if you are interested:
https://www.wired.com/story/pop-up-mobile-ads-surge-as-sites-scramble-to-stop-them/
Once I have the information above, I’ll pass it on to the ads team so they can try to track down and block the ad.
Thanks!

Hi Gemma,
thank you very much for the replay. The problem (mine and of several followers) happens only clicking on links to djedmedu.wordpress.com (and other blogs in wordpress, only free version) shared on Facebook and not visiting the site directly.

Hi there,
Thank you for the information – just noting I’ve redacted your IP address as sensitive info like that should not be posted in the public forums.
I just want to clarify something – Does that ad actually appear while viewing your own post in the browser, or immediately when you tap the link in Facebook? Looking at your screen shot it looks like a Facebook ad appearing on Facebook, not an ad appearing on your site.
It would only be something we can look into if your post loaded, and only after your post loaded the add appears.
If the add appears immediately when you tap the link on Facebook, it’s more likely that Facebook is showing that to you, in which case contacting their support is better.

Hi Kokkieh,
the ad appears to me and to other people after about 10/15 seconds, when the post is already loaded.
Thank you -
Hi there,
The screenshot you shared is showing Facebook in the background. Is that ad opens up in a new tab after visiting your site?
Also, can you please check if a malware app is installed and is causing this? You can find more information on how to do that in this article:

Hi fstat, thanks for the replay
I already checked and there aren’t malware apps on my mobile. I also asked to other people who use android to try and everyone has the same problem. So, it does not depend on me.
In any case, yes, the ad opens up in a new tab. I have a video, is there a way to show it to you? -
Hey there,
In any case, yes, the ad opens up in a new tab. I have a video, is there a way to show it to you?
You can upload it to your media library and we should be able to access and watch the video.
Thanks,

Hi Darnel,
I can’t upload videos on my media library because I have the free wordpress plan.
But I uploaded it on YouTube:

Hi there,
Yeah, that looks like something that is coming from Facebook. When you click on an article or post link on Facebook while on a mobile device, you’re still in Facebook’s in app browser (as you can see the blue border around the address bar). So, when you click the link within a desktop browser, you totally leave Facebook to view the post and the ad does not pop up, correct?
I’d reach out to Facebook and see what they say about this pop up ad.
I also found an article on how to disable the Facebook in app browser on the android. I’d probably disable that feature first and see if the ad still pops up:

Hope this helps!

Yes, You’re right and it seems that Facebook solved the problem, after 4 days…
