I believe I have a spam problem when my engineers tried to install Google analytics. See the spam when connecting on the Internet directly above Topics subject line and below one of the advertising banners.

Google Analytics is available for users with the WordPress.com Business plan. For more details on the integration of Google Analytics with WordPress.com, please see this guide:

    Connect to Google Analytics

If you don’t have the Business plan, we offer built-in statistics showing much of the same data. You can read more about what our stats measure here:

    Jetpack Stats

You can view your site’s stats here:

    https://wordpress.com/stats/

You can also use Google Webmaster Tools, which contains some of the same functions as Google Analytics:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/webmaster-tools/

What you’re seeing isn’t spam. It’s simply the code you inserted that will not execute on WordPress.com.

Let us know if you have any more questions.

Thank you for your reply. The analytics code is reflecting in the home page of my blog for the view of the public, how can I remove analytics and get this matter resolved as I am not sure what the engineer did and the engineer is only contactable late next week?

  • Unknown's avatar

    @alanlouis9

    I’ve removed it for you.

If you have additional questions, please let us know.

Thank you kindly pmciano, but if you click on a topic you will notice the spam on each topic. Please also remove these for each topic.
Why my engineer did not say I must first upgrade to get analytics is just not understandable?
Nevertheless, if I upgrade will you automatically install analytics for me a i have no idea how to do this and I am not technically efficient.
    Thank you again

    Hello! :)

I’ve removed the remaining Google Analytics code from your blog posts.

Once you’ve signed up for the WordPress.com Business Plan Google Analytics is not automatically enabled, but it does not require any coding experience to set it up.

    All the steps are here:

    Connect to Google Analytics

But we can work through them together too. :)

    Step one is this:

To get started, sign up for Google Analytics and create a new “property” to collect data for — this will be your WordPress.com site. Enter your primary domain in the Website URL field. A Tracking ID will be issued, looking something like UA–123456–12.

Since you already have the Google Analytics account setup, your tracking ID should already be available by logging into your Google Analytics account. Copy that ID.

    Next, visit this page:

    https://wordpress.com/settings/analytics

Select your site which has the Business plan upgrade. The paste in your tracking ID and click Save changes.

Why my engineer did not say I must first upgrade to get analytics is just not understandable?

Many web designers and developers are used to working on self-hosted sites running the WordPress.org software. It’s possible they had not worked in our hosting environment before. To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two separate entities:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

Dear Alex G, you have been a great help, thank you very much. I have upgraded my package as you recommended, and inserted my code. Is that it, will google analytics now work?

  • Unknown's avatar

    That’s all it takes. :)

You’ve been receiving steady traffic in the meantime — is that traffic appearing in your Google Analytics now?

  • Unknown's avatar

Thank you AlexJ, I have reviewed my google analytics but remain very confused – the traffic analytics on WordPress stats is vastly different to that shown on google. Why? Google reflects that I am hardly getting any traffic. Please advise?

  • Unknown's avatar

Google Analytics and WordPress.com Stats measure traffic and activity in different ways. Some variance is to be expected.

How vast a difference are you seeing?

  • Unknown's avatar

A vast difference, 70% Kind regards Alan Louis

Wow – the difference definitely shouldn’t be that large. I’m trying to think what could cause discrepancies that large. When you were setting Google Analytics up, do you remember setting the timezone correctly to match the same timezone at WordPress.com? Perhaps that could be causing the discrepancy.

Thank you Jeremy, it is working better now but can you please advise how to set the time-zone to synchronise?

    Kind regards, Alan
