Spam sent to me to confirm has gone up more than 50x in the last 2 weeks.

  Much more spam is getting through Akismet, starting 2 weeks ago. And much of it is obvious, the kind of thing that Akismet used to filter without difficulty. I have seen your responses to similar comments from others, and they all come down to “spammers have just discovered your blog.” But, I don’t think that is what is happening here.
  Akismet (or whoever you use) puts things in 3 categories: 1) Obvious spam (which it stores for a few weeks, I think, but I never have to look at it), 2) possible spam, which it sends to me for approval and 3) messages that are approved without my intervention. What has happened is that type #2 has gone way way up.
  Here is an example of the garbage that I am being asked to approve: random sentences. Why isn’t Akismet putting this into category #1? I think you should ask Akismet what is going on – their filters seem to have taken a giant step backwards.

  Thanks for the report. Have you been marking these comments as spam rather than just deleting them from the comments inbox? This should help to train Akismet to better recognize the spam that’s getting through.

  Thanks for the response. Yes, I have been marking them all as spam. I do it every few days, so they sit in the “pending” category until then.

  I don’t believe Akismet is actually working. Today I got two absurd comments awaiting approval. Neither of them would have made it through any spam filter from 2005. One of them has 5 repetitions of For Sale Cheap Ray Ban Sunglasses !

  With results like this, does anyone think that Akismet is working properly? It’s too bad other people cannot comment on this thread, because I’m sure I am not the only person having this experience.
