Spam sign ups
-
Over the past 4 days my blog has received many more reader sign ups than expected and they do not appear to be from real people or email addresses. What might be causing this and is there a way to make it stop?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, it is possible for spammers to follow your blog, although it isn’t something you need to worry about.
Pretty much the only thing they have to gain by following you is getting you to visit or follow their blog through the notification email.
If those followers have blogs that contain spam content, please report it following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/report-blogs/
Let me know if you have any questions about that!

This is a business blog and number of new signups is one of our metrics– is there any way to prevent spammers from following our blog (some ability to “approve” new users, maybe)? For now I’ve turned off the email notifications for new readers because constant notifications were getting annoying, but that means we also won’t be notified if one of our customers signs up.
Thanks!

I’m afraid this option isn’t currently available, but I’ll pass along your request, along with the rationale of how important it is for a business blog to be able to track real followers.
