spam stalker

Some prat calling himself Hot Shot Bald Cop is spamming me and many of my blogging friends several times a day with seemingly genuine and complimentary messages. His links are many and varied, but seem to emanate from the actor Ed Lauter. This is getting to be a positive pest. Can anything be done to block this nuisance at aource?

Hot shot shows up in my spam filter also – I just click on “clear spam” and they are gone. that is about all you can do. you can put his name in the Dashboard >> Settings >> Discussion – black list.
Just normal spam stuff – someone else yesterday complained about the same “person”.

Mark him as spam. Akismet will learn and then begin to catch them. Also set your site to require moderation for first-time commenters at settings > discussion. That will keep them from getting onto the site in the first place and then you can mark the spammers as spam.

Hotshot Bald Cap and others have also been spamming me heavily–hundreds of spams per day, all showing up in my spam queue. I have even used the blacklist, to no avail. Finally, I invoked the nuclear option–to disallow comments on most posts. This is my only option, to the best of my knowledge, until Akismet works better. These spammers are nuisances, and I have better things to do than delete their comments from my spam queue, even twenty at a time, or to keep adding criteria to my blacklist.

Shows up in my self-hosted site as well in the spam filter. I “spammed” it a couple times and now it goes directly to the spam filter where I just flush it down the drain.

It is showing up in the spam queue, then the spam software is doing its job. They will likely continue for a week or so and then get tired and quit.
Welcome to the web where 97% of all comments on sites are spam.
