Spam steep increase

In the last month (May) I’ve detected quite a strong increase of the Spam on my blog. It’s coming from three or four websites only. This morning I found 58 comments blocked by the Spam filter instead of 4 o5 detected in April., which means a twelve-fold increase. Does this mean that I am under attack or is this trend general for for all the blogs? Do we have an option to report these spamming sites somewhere and get them blocked forever like in Twitter?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • It is a more general thing. Spam tends to be cyclical in my experience. If they are being blocked by the spam filter and not appearing on your blog then the spam catcher is doing its job.

Thank you, I am a kind of relieved, but annoyed. Spam filter is performing perfectly and I have also the pre-aproval check enabled. Nevertheless there are 4 sites of theirs and they send me some 10 times a day the same Spam to a different article (which are 30). I suppose they have their own server otherwise a provider would have blocked them since long. Hope they get bored for no trespassing success.

yes spam sucks – for perspective (and I still get less spam than many sites) – I have started emptying my spam filter box twice a day – 40 to 90 spam each time – the TOTAL spam that Akismet is catching for my site is around 350 a day average – I have more total spam so far this year than the total for all of last year

  • I heartily agree with both of you. Spammers suck.

It is something that WordPress.com (and just about every internet company that allows public submissions) battles with constantly. And it’s frustrating for everyone but the spammers. May they get what’s coming to them someday.
