Spam subscribers on my blog
-
Hi,
I blog at http://the-shooting-star.com/, and in the last couple of weeks, I’ve seen a surge of subscribers, many of which appear to be spam, with email addresses like
(email visible only to moderators and staff) and (email visible only to moderators and staff).I know that wordpress.com sends an email to verify subscription, but somehow these spam emails are still getting through. What can I do? Nothing makes me happier than a new subscriber, but I certainly don’t want bots to subscribe to my blog.
Any help / advice will be much appreciated.

Hi there,
We do indeed send an email which is required for verification and have implemented other safeguards behind-the-scenes to minimize the ease by which spammers can follow bloggers, however some do always get through.
Unfortunately there isn’t much which can be done in these situations. Even when spam followers are removed, they can re-follow you. The good news however is that there is nothing that a spam follower can actually do to you. As long as you don’t engage them, provide any information specific to your account, etc; then they really cannot impact you in any way.
