Spammed with ‘Likes’
-
Hey I see this is a common issue and that many people have trouble resolving it online. How can I stop someone from spam-liking my posts? I’m getting CONSTANT phone email notifications and the only choice I have is to turn off notifications from WordPress all together — which sucks, since I want to know when someone actually likes or comments on my posts. Can this person be blocked? What can I do?

Hi there,
Sorry to hear you’re getting spammed like this! Unfortunately it’s not possible to block a specific person from viewing, following, or interacting with posts on a public website, but we do have measures in place to prevent abuse of the Like feature, which includes preventing automated liking by bots. But spammers are always changing their tactics, so it’s sadly a never ending battle, and sometimes spammers can elude our countermeasures.
With this in mind can you point out a few of these likes on your site so we can note the username and take a closer look?
Also, it’s not uncommon for “like spammers” to also have a spammy site associated with their account. So if you wish you can report them anytime you wish by visiting their site (there is usually a link to it in their like notification) and the following the steps here to report it: http://en.support.wordpress.com/report-blogs/
But as I mention, we’re happy to take a look at any specific “likers” if you share the username info with us. Thanks!

Hi there,
This is the spam-liker https://www.relatocorto.com/
A guy named Sebastian. His account doesn’t look spammy. He looks like a creative writer who is just using shady tactics to get page views, which is pretty uncool.
But, ya.
No way to stop the inbox spam eh. That’s unfortunate. I’ll have to turn off notifications for wordpress all together.

Where can I see evidence of this “like” on your site? Sebastian is likely their common name, but I’m curious to see their
@usernameso we can investigate. Thanks for pointing it out! -
Not sure how to post a screen shot in here from my phone, but I have a screenshot of a 72 email thread where the user who runs https://www.relatocorto.com/ liked, unliked, liked and unliked over and over again.

Gotcha. I fowarded info of this incident to our Terms of Service team, so they are already investigating.
A screenshot would definitely help if you can share one to us. To share a screenshot with us, you can upload it to the Media Library on your site, and then copy the image URL. You can see a video of how to do this here: https://d.pr/v/Fcnerp
Once you have the image URL just paste it into your reply and we will be able to see your screenshot, thanks!

Here’s a link to the biggest spam-like session I’ve seen from Sebastian. But I’ve seen it happen several times on different days. This was 71 likes on the same post within about 2 hours.
And here is the link for when I click Sebastian’s ‘Home’ page in that email (see screenshot)
Think anything will come of this report?

Thanks for that extra info, are you continuing to see this kind of “spam like” activity? We’ve take action on quite a few accounts related to that site, but if you spot this again let us know the details so we can investigate.
Thanks for rocking WordPress.com! :)
