Is this a new spam trend?
-
I’ve noticed over the past two days I’ve received probably 20 some spam comments, all caught thankfully and not published, but they’re different than what I’ve seen before. It seems like all the “people” are using bing.com , yahoo.com and google.com as their website and then of course some strange looking email. Is this something new going around? Are these comments generated by a computer or just someone wasting their time to come and clog up my blog? If you don’t know, that’s fine, but I was just curious. I’m so glad I have WP to catch these annoying comments and push them into the spam section!! :)

It does seem to be a new trend. One anti-spam option in WordPress is to hold the commenter’s first comment for approval. Once approved, the commenter can comment freely without interference.
I imagine these odd comments with no spammish link could be a way to gain the first approval before the real spam flood begins.

Well I already have my settings set up if more than, I think two, links are in a comment it’s flagged. None of these actually got through as “comments”, well at least good reliable ones, and were in my spam folder. I was just quite surprised 20 some in two days! Crazy. And annoying buggers. Oh well I guess. Thanks though!
