Spammers asking for guest posts

    Hi,
lately I am receiving emails from people that ask to write a guest post for some of my blogs. The subject is usually: “Idea for a blog post:” followed by some topic somewhat loosely related to the topic of my blog. They are all female names that sound fairly easy to remember and they use gmail accounts. Then they propose to write a guest post and they offer a link to their somehow associated company. A couple of weeks later they send the email again, no matter whether you replied or not. Is everybody having the same problem? This is spam, right?
    Thanks,
    Cristina

Well, maybe it’s spam and maybe it’s honest people who’ve been told guest posts are a great self-promotional tool, and who are consequently behaving like…tools.

    I have friends like that.

But go ahead and send them to spam or just reply and say you’re not interested the first time and then send them to spam after that. If well-meaning people are spamming you under the delusion it’s not spam, they need to be taught a lesson.

As my guest post policy clearly states this in blod lettering:

Please note that this is not a commercial blog and no submissions made on behalf of a commercial client will be considered for publication.

Yest I still get these requests every day – day in and day out. I delete them.

RATS! I’m sorry about the typos. I forgot to spellcheck.

It is possible that some of them are honest people looking for self-promotion. But I just realized that two -supposely- different people had written exactly the same subject and they start the email with exactly the same words:

    Hello Editor–
I noticed that some emails were being sent to my spam email folder so please bear with me if you’re receiving this same message again.

But they announce different companies. A third one sent a follow-up email almost identical to the previous follow-up email sent minutes earlier by a -supposedly- different person. This looks more and more like spam to me …

I know exactly what you mean and they are scammers and spammers.

My advice is to treat them like spam whether they come from robots or from your sister. Because they’re spam.
