Spammy pop-up ads on mobile
-
I’m on the free plan meaning there are some ads on my site, but when people access links on a mobile or tablet, they are re-directed to a different page and horrendously spammy pop-up ads start coming up. This makes it impossible for mobile and tablet users to read articles that I have posted. Is it possible to change this or make the ads less obnoxious?

Hi! I have seen a few posts about this lately and noticed an answer from a staff member a few days ago.
Hi there,
This is likely caused by adware running in the Safari browser. Google “iOS pop ups” and you’ll find many reports of this happening on a variety of websites, not just WordPress.com. Ads like this have been showing up on iOS since at least 2014 from what I can find, but it appears to be on the increase in the past few weeks.
Set your device to airplane mode and force-quit Safari. Restart Safari and completely clear the browser cache and history. Then disable airplane mode. Based on the articles I could find about this issue, that should stop the pop-ups from appearing.
If your readers are using iOS then this may help them.
