Specific Category Excluded from Main Page

Hoping there is a way to accomplish this.
We allow members to submit content via email and file it in a default category. These posts can be high and it will shuffle everything else down including announcements we want to be at the top for non members to see. (We’re a club trying to get more members).
So, is there a way to not have the member submitted stuff show on the main page? Or is a static page the only way to not have this happen?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

THere is no way to exclude a post from showing on the main blog. What you can do with announcements et al is make a Sticky post which holds it at the top of the page; on certain themes you can do an Alert Box which does much the same thing. In it you can either put all the info or just headlines like:
See our latest party pics (link)
Go to our coming event schedule (link)
See why the Daily Mail is suing us over its Loch Ness Monster Story (link)You can only use ONE sticky or alert box, so if you need to put multiple posts in, just use the link example above and link to the individual posts on each topic,

What I was suspecting so thank you.
I am using the alert box for something already and one sticky isn’t enough.
Maybe a WordPress feature suggestion? I would think something like this would be available. I know blogs are supposed to be all about latest and current but sometimes there is a need.

“You can only use ONE sticky or alert box”
By the way, NOT true at all. I have two now and an alert box, works fine.

Believe me when I say that raincoaster has been here for 4 years and knows what’s true and what can be done but when fone becomes self defeating. Eventually you will have an editing mess if you keep piling on sticky posts on your front page. But if you don’t care about Google juice and PageRank then I suppose ti doesn’t matter how you construct your blog.

Personally I would suggest combining the content of your alert box and the “welcome” sticky post into a text widget in the sidebar. You can always delete the “welcome” bit when your blog is not so new. Setting up a contact page might be an idea too rather than posting your email address. If you do this the information will be noticable without pushing the important content (posts) below the fold. There’s no reason why your “August Club Meeting” post shouldn’t sit in the alert box until the end of the month if it is really important that all viewers notice it.

You have two stickies and an alert box? Over time, you’ll see two things happen:
1) You’ll lose readers. People hate scrolling past things they’ve already read, and search engines hate static content at the top of the blog.
2) the order of the posts will become screwed up.

All very good points and I appreciate it. Still working through this and liking it.
I agree, the sticky management of multiple stickies was already a problem. Gone.
I made a static page now, testing another way and so far it works. Welcomes people, points them to the various areas, and no stick management issues that you point out.
I appreciate the suggestions that directly pertain to the site, really grateful for you taking a look. This is still a learning experiment and it looks like it will work too.
