Specific text formatting question – color

On my current post, The Flooded Heart, there are four links to other pages near the bottom of the post, centered on the page. (The first is The Rural Populist.)

When I create a link, I highlight it with color. All of the other links in paragraphs of text are working properly and have the proper color. However, the four links centered on the page will not “take” the color. The links do work properly.

I went into the html editor and found that the hex number is correct. I use #643716 for general text and #6a7a7a for links. The format seems to be the same as for other colored links which do work. There is something in the code I’m missing that is keeping those four links from changing color.

This isn’t a critical issue, but I’ve spent about two hours trying to figure out something that someone else may be able to glance at and say, “Oh – there’s your problem”.

    Thanks….

In the HTML editor, copy out the code of those four links, starting from the period of the last paragraph above them and ending with the first letter of the first line below them. And do the same with a link where the colour is as you like, it; copy the html from the end of the word before to the start of the next word. Then paste it here between backticks, the little marks on the same key as ~. So it would be backtick, code, backtick. Then we can compare.

This is the section which refuses to give up color #643716:

    <p style="text-align:center;"><span style="color: #6a7a7a;"><a href="http://ruralpopulist.org/2007/04/04/fired-for-doing-his-job/" target="_blank">The Rural Populist</a></span></p>
    <p style="text-align:center;"><span style="color: #6a7a7a;"><a href="http://dispatchesfromkansas.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Iowa Tractor Boys</a></span></p>
    <p style="text-align:center;"><span style="color: #6a7a7a;"><a href="http://www.flyoverpeople.net/" target="_blank">Flyover People</a></span></p>
    <p style="text-align:center;"><span style="color: #6a7a7a;"><a href="http://dispatchesfromkansas.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Dispatches from Kansas</a></span></p>

And this, from a full paragraph below it, appears as it should:

    <a href="http://www.geocities.com/cannongrange/cannon_nationalhistory.html" target="_blank"><span style="color: #6a7a7a;">Grange movement</span></a>,

OK – I did note the error in the URL for Iowa Tractor Boys and have corrected that, so the references are all ok now.

Okay, do you see the difference in the formatting? In the first instance, your colour code comes before the URL, in other words outside the link itself; in the second, it comes after the URL, so it is contained within the link. Change them over to the second format.

Well, shoot. I once was blind, but now I see! OK – I’m off to mutter aloud to myself while I fix it up.

    THANK YOU!

You’re welcome. I think it was the centering that bounced the formatting around. Next time, colourize first, then center after everything else is done. That might work better.

HOORAY! First one done, worked like a charm.

As I think back, I believe you’re right about the sequence – I centered first.

I’d forgotten how much fun learning something totally new can be!
