Specify exact locations for a pin in maps block
-
I would like to be able to specify the exact location for a pin using the maps block (for example by moving the map and/or marker, or specifying lat/long coordinates). The address I’m looking for does not come up in the map block search, so I’m not able to drop a pin.
Is this possible?
I note the maps block now uses Apple Maps by default, whereas previously it used Mapbox. I have the same issue in either case. My best workaround at the moment is to use a custom Google map, but it’s not as nice looking and it’s clumsy to implement.
FWIW, I’m trying to show the location of a particular building on campus at a University.

Thanks for getting in touch. This is good feedback and I’m going to pass it along.
For the time being, you are correct. It’s not possible to use coordinates in the map block. What you can do though, is edit your markers, and you can select more than 1 marker on the map.
Do you think that would work for y’all? Setting 1 marker for the university in general and then putting a second marker on the individual building at the campus?
With the map block you can add a map to any post or page on your site. Add a Map Block In order to add a map block, click on the Block Inserter + icon. You can also type /map and hit enter in a new paragraph block to add one quickly. For more, visit our detailed instructions on adding blocks. Thanks @staff-zinnia
I’m afraid that doesn’t really help.
First, I can’t even get the Maps block to find the university, and second, dropping a second pin has the same issue: you can only specify an address, not drag the pin.
For context, I’m trying to point to Building 18 (Biological Sciences), at Monash University in Clayton, Victoria, Australia. The map block won’t even recognise “Monash University”, which is a bit weird, as Apple Maps has no trouble with this (I’ve tested on Apple Maps on an iPhone and on a Mac). Apple Maps even lists “School of Biological Sciences” (albeit the pin is in slightly the wrong place, just outside the building).

↑ The maps block can’t locate “Monash University”, etc.

↑ Apple Maps (i.e. the app) can find “Monash University”.

↑ Apple Maps can even find the School of Biological Sciences (albeit slightly off with the pin)

Hi there,
I completely understand your concern. Nevertheless, as my colleague has already mentioned, the current implementation does not allow for that yet, and we have communicated this to our development team.
