Specify the size of custom background image

I’m trying to use a custom image for the background. I’ve uploaded an image but I don’t see how to specify the image size. The default is very large so only the upper left corner of the image is visible on the front end. Is there some way to crop or re-size image after upload?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The best approach is to optimize the image and presize it prior to uploading it as when the cropper comes into play image quality is lost. It should be no larger than 150k in file size or it will take forever for your site to load for people on slower internet connections and you run the risk of them clicking out. The header image is 940×198 px – maybe that can give you some idea of how big you want the image to be?

The header is working nicely due to the cropping feature. I am having trouble with the background image itself. The problem is that the image is so blown out of proportion on the screen. As a result I can only see one corner of my picture and it becomes grainy. Is there an optimal pixel size for the background so the uploaded image will fill the screen width?

Things are not in your control and depend on the monitor resolution on the visitor’s computer. There is no “optimal” size for a background image. In general, I would do a background image that is 1400px wide and 1000px tall and then set a background color that compliments, or approximates the edges of the image if possible. Also, keep the file size of the image below under 200k and 150k would be even better so that it will not slow down page loading times. Right now your image is over 2.5MB
