Speed problems with Cubic theme

    Hi,

I recently changed my layout from Reddle to Cubic, it suits my needs perfectly, and I really like the way it is image oriented. However I have two major problems:

    1. It is VERY slow. I know having images can be a problem, but I am keeping my image sizes to a minimum, and still the site is taking forever to load. Much much slower than when I worked with Reddle, with the same amount of images (and in that, since it didnt have the “cover page” feel cubic has, the front page would have all images on it, as opposed to just a feature image.)

    2. I do not want to use feature images on this site, I want my gallery to pop up each time a reader clicks on a link on my front page. The featured image is a nice spread, but it takes up the entire page, and since I am not writing anything on this site but planning on just showcasing my photo work in small galleries, I do not want a feature image that will take up the whole space and may stop people from scrolling down to the gallery (as they will think that is all there is to it)

But, if I do not select a feature image then the theme selects one for me, and does it in no sensical way that I can manipulate. It doesnt necessarily select the first image in the gallery either (I tried) and often I end up with an image I do not want glued to my front page and no matter how much I change the order in the gallery, it just wont go away. I will have to delete the post, reload the photos and repost the exact same thing so I can change the image appearing in the front page.

So if there are any suggestions as to what I can do to fix my two problems, I am all ears! Thanks in advance!

PS. Also other theme recommendations are also welcome, but so far, cubic fits right into what I have in mind.. If I could just fix the speed and the feature image prob.s I am one happy camper :)

Hi peoplefsm, and thank you. Actually if you do not have a problem (unlike me) specifying a featured image for a post, then using Cubic is pretty straightforward. You specify a feature image for each post, and then that image is showcased on your home page. And if you keep the dimensions of your featured images equal (say 1:1) then you have the exact same shapes appearing on your home page.

However my problem is that the feature image I specify also gets published, magnified, in the original post. I want to be able to work around that, I want people to able to see only the content when they enter the individual posts. As an option however, because in certain cases a magnified feature image in the post itself also looks beautiful.

That said, how is the speed on your site when you switch to Cubic?

@cannongrrl, I’m not seeing any featured images on your single post pages, such as this one: https://bikemekberzade.wordpress.com/2016/01/29/a-dry-harvest/ , which is using the Gallery Post format.

We can use CSS to hide the featured images on single post pages, but that would require the Custom Design Upgrade, which you can find out more about by going into your admin dashboard to Store > Store.

@thesacredpath thank you! I let go and let the theme pick whichever image it pleased. Except in Chad, I had a problem since it kept on picking the vertical shot, thus distorting the front page line up.. There I had to adjust w/using a feature image (as well as in Afar)

I think this is a taster and they are keeping the full features for the paid version, understandable.

Many thanks for clarifying! Much appreciated…
