Spell Check

I don’t understand how to spell check my blog posts since the update. I saw in another forum that it is because other browsers have their own spell check, but I’m not using those browsers. I am using the desktop app, and I have to copy and paste my post out of your browser to make sure that my post is coming across professional and polished. Is there supposed to be an easy way to do this?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi @colleentinch, thank you for your feedback. We’ve noted your request. Right now we do not have a built-in replacement, but we’re listening and looking for alternatives. The previous solution we used was no longer being maintained.

One easier option than copying and pasting is to save items in your desktop app as drafts, then review them in a browser prior to publishing.

Some operating systems have spell check available as well. What platform are you using there, and have you checked to see if it has spellcheck available?

WordPress.com used to check my spelling after I would click “Update” and then give to me the option to fix my spelling errors before it would post. That feature has not been functioning for the past month or so. Is there a way for me to re-enable it?

  • @newsmustread,

WordPress.com’s built-in spell check was retired several months ago, as most browsers and operating systems now come with spell-check built in. If you go to your browser’s Settings or Preferences section, you should be able to enable the language and spelling features for your browser there if they’re not already active.

The built in WordPress.com spellcheck worked well, because it would pause an update and warn the user that it found misspelled words and give the user the option to fix those misspellings before posting.

The built in spellcheck in a browser just underlines misspelled words. That can’t replace what we had in WordPress.com. And as others have said here, Grammarly is more of an annoyance than anything.

We need the built in spellcheck in WordPress.com back.

I second getting the spellcheck back. My browser just underlines words that are spelled wrong it doesn’t fix them unless I’m actually typing them out on that website.
