Contact WordPress Support Won’t Work
-
I am having the same problem. I transferred a site to WP because of support issues at my old provider. Now I cannot get a support contact here. The chat link seems to be greyed out and does no respond. My transferred site seems to be caught in some type limbo where it is visible on some browsers and not others, and I cannot see pages and posts in some views even though they are there.

Hello there,
We’re reaching out to you via email to further assist. Please be sure to check any spam inboxes that may be in place.
Many thanks.

I think I have a little insight about the issues. If I go to the desktop version of WP I see two blog sites not one, both with the same domain name. These have all the posts, pages and images done correctly, but members are missing.
If I go to the WP web site and then go to the domains there is only 1 and it is a previous build that was transferred away from WP. This version is missing all the posts and pages from the current build that was staged.
So it looks like the staged version did not wipe out the old version when it was merged to the working version. It keeps wanting me to update the domain names, but they are defaulted to the WP names.

The correct version has 200 posts and about 40 pages. I can rebuild the users manually if I need to, but right now I cannot edit anything.
-
The images all seem to be there in the correct version and rebuilding them would be very difficult.
-
I just checked and there are still issues
The number of posts is listed as posted 37, and reports “No Posts Found”
Pages as 19 but none published
No images
Yet the displayed pages have the content
Would flushing the cache help
-
Well now the images are starting to populate
Let me see if the posts and pages come back over the next few minutes

I appreciate you response, but this is far from resolved. The site images came back. Pages and posts are there, somewhere, but do not show in the edit mode. The site is still prompting me to resolve the DNS. Nothing can be accessed including posts, pages, and plugins. I believe the two versions are still in conflict and I have no way to resolve that from my end.
I do have a clean backup of the site using a plugin called Duplicator, but I cannot access any plugin so I cannot use it to rebuild the content.
Help please!!!

Hi there,
We reply to requests in the order we receive them but please be sure to not reply (again) before you have heard from staff, as it has the effect of resetting the clock, and made it difficult for us to see your replies until now.
Now that I can see your post, can you tell us more about how you have imported content so far? Have you been using Duplicator from the start? Or have you been using a different plugin or method to import instead?
The site is still prompting me to resolve the DNS. Nothing can be accessed including posts, pages, and plugins. I believe the two versions are still in conflict and I have no way to resolve that from my end.
It sounds like you may have made a recent change to your domain domain name server (NS) addresses, yes? Does this mean that the original site (the one you are moving from) is still hosted with your other provider, yes?
One thing to be aware of, it’s a good idea to wait until your import is complete before making any changes to your domain settings. Is it possible you changed your DNS to WordPress.com before everything had wrapped up? Thanks for the additional info!

Thanks for getting back to me. About a year ago I set up this site on WP and later decided to consolidate it where my other sites are hosted. Apparently when I left the old data was never removed from your site. So when I imported the files from Duplicator I thought from their documentation it would completely overwrite whatever was on the site, much like a restore function.
I only tried Duplicator as a way to transfer the files, and I still have those exports from my previous hosting site. If it would be cleaner and easier I could let you flush the files and I could do another Duplicator import, but right now I cannot get to the plugins to perform an import.
I also get very strange conflicts when accessing the site via Edge. Firefox seems to be cleaner, but Edge is my preferred choice.
My previous hosting service is having some issues and I am headed over to that location to be sure they have not messed with the DNS settings. Thanks.

Hi again,
Thanks for clarifying. You did not say it directly, but the site you have with your previous host is no longer online? Would they be able to assign a temporary domain to it so you can access? We are not familiar with the Duplicator plugin (we use our own migration plugin) but in our experience it’s always easier to perform a migration if both sites can be accessed from the internet at separate addresses.
If it would be cleaner and easier I could let you flush the files and I could do another Duplicator import, but right now I cannot get to the plugins to perform an import.
Our logs do not show when you started your first attempt at restoring from Duplicator, but you can access your https://wordpress.com/backup/pillarsoftherepublic.com?date=20230525
You can pick a backup from any time before you started with your Duplicator migration, and restore to that point. This will roll your site back to the way it was before you started, so you can begin again.
Please note that it’s typical for 3rd party plugins like Duplicator to cause issues with the Jetpack connection we maintain on your site. So it is likely that you will be locked out of the site after any migration using that tool. In that event you can let us know and we will take a closer look and reconnect Jetpack, as my colleague did previously in this thread.
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

I took a look at the Jetpack log and in theory the May 25 backup should have worked. It had the correct post, page, plugin count. I did a restore to May 25 but nothing changed.
I still cannot access any installed plugins. Any attempt to look at the list just defaults me to the home page. I am sure the old site is still there, just not connected. But I am not running Jet Pack there.
If I installed Jet Pack on the old site would it create a backup I could access on the new site?

I believe I found the problem, but I cannot fix it from here.
The system is defaulting to an ADMIN login of AdminPotR which is on the old site I had at WP.com. I don’t believe that this ID appears in the list of users on the new site. I created a new ADMIN user on the NEW site at WP.com and then logged in to it. That gets me to everything. But I am concerned that the crossover between the original site and the new one is an issue. When I tried to connect Jetpack to my account for better stats it defaults to the old site and will not let me connect to the new site. So things are connected in some strange way and I believe until we can completely erase the old site the crossover will continue to be an issue.
Also, something I don’t understand is that the user interface is different between the two. The differences are subtle, but I can tell that they are different. It looks like the interface on the new site is an old one that I had on the site before I transferred it to WP.com. For sure there is a difference. I could add this user to the new site but I don’t want to do that until I know it will not cause Jetpack issues.

I am not trying to flood you with notes, but my discovery of issues is linear, and I can save you time. I cannot tell if I am on the WP server or the HOSTEK server when the site development works. I checked HOSTEK and they show the site as inactive and transferred away. But they changed the DNS to point back to them and the interface I am seeing is theirs. But there are plugins that are new and noted as managed by WP.com. This pix is of the interface I see when I log on as noted above. I can get to the DNS on their side and point it to WP but since the site is noted as inactive, I am not sure the DNS on their side matters.
For sure there is some linkage and issues between old and new server, DNS, and old ADMIN login. The linkage issues are over my head and I don’t know how to proceed to be sure I am operating on the WP servers ONLY and that I can stay there with full access to everything.

Thanks for all the information here. Are you logging into the site via pillarsoftherepublic.com/wp-admin or https://wordpress.com/log-in? Within your WordPress.com, I do see 48 pages and 200 pages. If you’re logging in via wp-admin you may see the more “traditional-looking” admin panel.
-
Excellent catch and I am on the wp-admin, but every attempt to get to the log-in side of things defaults over to the wp-admin. There is some strange connection I just cannot break. For example, to log in to this forum I seem to only be able to get here through the AdminPotR login, which is on the old site not the new one. If I add the AdminPotR user to the correct site what would happen and/or how do I get rid of all the data in the old site?

AdminPotRis the username connected to your WordPress.com account that your new site is under. It just may be the admin username used to log into the wp-admin dashboard as well?
That may be the source of the confusion, but before you delete any data from the old site, you want to ensure that all the content has migrated over to your new site successfully. As @synora10 mentioned, 200 posts and 37 pages have migrated over successfully, so if that is the correct number, you can reach out to your old site host to have them assist you with taking the old site down. Hope this helps.
