split menus

Hi, I’m facing an interesting problem.
How exactly do I split a menu over different parts of a page (i.e. level 1 in header, level 2 in sidebar)
My specific problem is an online literary journal that I’m working on. I’d like to have the general rubrics be in the header (poetry, fiction, non-fiction) and the author names in the left side bar, the titles of the works in the right side bar (level 3), and then the text/content will fill in the center of the page.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to do this and whether it’s possible. seems to me it should be possible with the wp_list_pages function. Am I on the right track?

Your reference to “wp_list_pages function” makes me think you are not asking about a wordpress.COM blog. If you have a self-hosted wordpress.ORG blog, they you should be looking for assistance at:
