Split: Site access
-
Lost admin privileges to https://scienceandtruth593446080.wordpress.com/, probably in 2021 when BlueHost migrated the site to them. Now I need to get my access back urgently because BlueHost has deleted the site on their servers.

Hi there,
My name is Pat and I’m a Happiness Engineer with WordPress.com.
I went ahead and restored that site to the ownership of the original creator. You should be able to now manage it from the WordPress.com Dashboard of that account.
Let us know if there’s anything else we can help with and in the meantime have a great rest of your day.

Hello Pat,
I don’t see either the Dashboard or a link to My Sites on the left panel when I enter my WordPress.com account, so I don’t find any way to connect to the site. Might it be that I have two accounts instead of one? It could be that I added a “blog” account few days ago and therefore am not accessing the original account.
Perhaps this is the situation because I also can’t enter the site by appending “/wp-admin” to the URL. It gives me the same messages as before about not having admin privileges. -
Hello again Pat,
Please also note that I’m not currently a paid customer of WordPress.com. I’m thrilled that the site is still available and if I no longer have the means to develop it, I’d like to migrate it or maybe pay to return to WordPress.com. -

Yes, you might be logged in to the wrong account. Please check your Sites screen to see if the site is listed here: https://wordpress.com/sites
If it’s not listed there, please log out of WordPress.com and log in to the right account.
If you need help recovering your original account, please let us know and we’ll send you an email to assist with account recovery since we cannot address account recovery requests in the public forums.

Hello, I do not see the site listed. I only see michaelherrerablog.wordpress.com listed.
I can only log into this account.
I apparently cannot log into the account I used back in 2020-2021 to develop the site. I am sure the account was created with my (email visible only to moderators and staff) email, but I no longer know the password I used at the time. That’s why I tried to recover the account. Instead it seems I created a new account associated with that email address. Never thought however I could have two accounts associated with the same email address.
I greatly appreciate it that you are assisting me to recover the account I last used around April 2021. -
Hello, I have not yet received an email from you to enable me to log back into my original account, if indeed the original account is not the account I have access to now.
-
To find out what email address that site is connected to, leave a message at https://scienceandtruth593446080.wordpress.com/contact/ en check all of your email addresses. Once found you can use that email address to log in again to wordpress.com
-
Note that after leaving a message on the site, I did not receive any message by email. This is surprising because I confirmed that in the HTML the message would indeed be forwarded to my primary email address, and even if it isn’t, all of my emails are forwarded to the same POP account.
This seems quite strange. Nothing seems to be working the way it is supposed to. I’m glad my site is still hosted, a godsend actually, but it is as if WordPress.com or BlueHost turned off parts of its functionality and removed my admin privileges. -
Note likewise:
1) I checked my spam filter at the email address account pointed to in the HTML code on the contact page and it is not there.
2) I do not remember receiving any forwarded contact message since the time the site was migrated to BlueHost.
3) I had at that time (around April 2021) believed erroneously that the site would no longer be available in any manner after I migrated it, so I stopped accessing it and I thereby forgot my WordPress.com password, causing me to recover my account.
4) It appears to me that this website lost its full functionality at WordPress.com’s server.
5) Is it common that a company like BlueHost asks for and keeps admin privileges (hopefully only inadvertently)? I may have given them admin privileges.
6) Can I find out who has admin privileges now for the site in a way that is more reliable than relying on the functionality of the contact page form?
7) I would like to know as much as I can before I contact BlueHost. They have made enough mistakes in the past that cost me dearly, so I don’t want them to tamper with the site anymore if they indeed were responsible for my losing access to it. -
Pat, I notice that you clearly stated that you restored permissions to the original owner.
Note that I do not have access to a dashboard and understand that this can be due to my account being suspended. This might be because I stopped my subscription. In that case I would like help from WordPress to migrate it again. -
Hey @michaelherrerablog!
I’ve replied to you via email (from help@wordpress.com).
I’m closing this forum thread :)
