Split: Staging site move to production site
-
I’m having a similar problem. The instructions for moving from staging to production seem to be incorrect (https://wordpress.com/support/how-to-create-a-staging-site/). That article reads: “If you have already created a staging site, you will see a “Manage staging site” button instead:” That’s not true for me. For what it’s worth, I never clicked the button “Add Staging Site”, because WPcom did that for me automatically, when I added my first plugin. Anyway, I need to move everything except Web Root, from stage to production. While I wait for your response, I’m going to set the stage site to public (if that’s possible) and see if it makes a difference; I doubt it will. Please advise.

… changing from “Coming Soon” to “Public” did not help. The attached image shows that I’m in the Staging environment (wpcomstaging.com), but the button shows “Add staging site” instead of “Manage staging site” :-( It doesn’t feel safe to click the “Add staging site” button; I’m afraid that would blow-away a weeks worth of work on my staging site! What to do?

Hi there,
I’ve split this topic off into it’s own thread since your issue is a bit different from the post you commented on. To explain, when you start your WordPress.com site, but you don’t have a custom domain yet, we assign an address to it. For sites under our Business plan your site will have an address with “staging” in the name by default, which can be replaced by registering a domain instead.
You can do that here: https://wordpress.com/domains/add/mleavenworth.wpcomstaging.com
You will see that pricing is crossed of, you are able to add a domain to your site for free (for the first year) under your business plan, but please note that there will be a domain registration fee charged in subsequent years.
You are welcome to choose mleavenworth.com if you wish (I see it is available to register) or any other web address you wish, so long as it is not already taken.
You may also want to consider adding a custom email address to your account (to match your domain) and a 3 month trial of our Professional Email is provided with your domain. You can consider it to be equivalent to Google Workspace in terms of functionality, so it is truly a professional product.

Thank you for your response Totoro.
I’m still a little concerned, because I was working on: mleavenworth.wordpress.com for hours. It changed to: mleavenworth.wpcomstaging.com, only after I added the first plugin. So, I thought I moved from production systems to staging.
I’m ready to change to a domain (already registered with Google), that was my next step anyway. Please assure me that I won’t accidentally be hosted on anything short of your high performing production environment, and I’ll go ahead and change the DNS. I also want to move the related domains (.com, .org and .us) to WP, but I think getting the site live comes first.
Thanks again. I look forward to your reply.

Never mind. I just made the DNS change. WP sure makes that easy. Unless I hear differently, I’ll assume that the site, multipartist.com, is hosted in your production environment.
Thank you.

Hi!
I just wanted to confirm that the domain multipartist.com is loading your WordPress.com site and that it is in a production environment.
Let us know if you need further assistance, and we’ll be happy to help!
