splitting a block
-
Hello, please don’t pay too much attention to my subject as I am not sure how to nutshell what I want.
Essentially, I have an exiting post I want to edit.
I have a grid block 2 columns, content in both.
Now I want to break or split this bloc about half way down- then add another grid bock single column that is full width.
The original double column content will continue to flow after this. However, when I try to add a full width singe column here, the editor will only serve me a ‘finder’ [+] the size of either the left or right columns. IE, small.
I have been wrestling with this for a few days, so rather than list everything I have tried I will stop and maybe I can answer direct questions of you don’t understand?
thx
p/s yes, I know I can delete the second half of content, THEN insert new bloc, THEN retype the second half, but…… -
You can also duplicate the block and delete the part that you don’t need from each.
Highlight the block you want to duplicate, and from the block’s Ellipsis, select “duplicate.” (temp screenshot)

Ha! Now THAT is clever!
Thanks justjennifer, I have tried many things in the finder menu but never thought of that!
I even cut and save the part two into a new project file in my IDE, then pasted it back into WordPress after the edit. I think your way is a tad quicker, but is there not a more simple way?

Glad that helped. :)
If you think about it, you’re going to be copying something from somewhere to somewhere regardless.
If you start by duplicating the columns blocks, you’ll be copy/pasting from your text A into columns block A and then text B into columns block B. That’s about the simplest way I can think of.
Everything else involves copying, pasting and deleting. But I’d also suggest experimenting to see whether you can come up with another way. :)

Yep, you are right and I have been down most of those roads a few times before. I was hoping there was some secret key combination where section of text could be “cut off’ and then, much as in CSS insert a “Clear All” so all block settings above were removed. Then I would select a new full width block, type up my new content et voila, no cut and paste!
Dreams are free!
