Splitting single page into 2 columns

I have a photos page on my blog (http://vazahagasy.wordpress.com/photos/) that I would like to display as two columns (I use the Digg 3 Column theme) because currently it’s a long vertical list and I’d like to display more content higher up.

The content is all standard links to picasa web photo albums. I’ve already started tinkering with the html (a little knowledge is a dangerous thing) to reduce the size of the photo page include, as you can see on the top link to Antsiranana (Diego) scenes, Northern Madagascar. Don’t know whether this is wise.

    Can you help?

So what you want to do is take the page and split it in two? I haven’t done this myself but I have seen a few blogs use a table to a similar effect… it’s not easy to do, but sunburntkamel had instructions for it in a previous thread.

I think it might just be simpler to align two images to appear on the same line, though. To do that you’d click on one and set it to left align and the other to right align (or you could center both and add some spaces between). You’d need to fix the captions, but I think that would be easier than creating a table. It would bring the photos higher and keep them aligned, which I think is what you want.

One thing to keep in mind though is that when you make an image smaller like your first one, you start to lose the quality… you might be better using a program to reduce the image and then upload that, rather than just reducing it manually; it’ll keep the ratio and look better. Hope that helps.

    Optimize your images
