Sponsor Options for a Premium account

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

My website (premium account) consist in advertising parties, and i’m interesting in obtaining some extra profit. From what i understood, i can’t put image banners, and i’m not interested in WordAds, so sponsored links seem the logical choice.

Sponsored links also have some restrictions, and that’s why i’m asking:

Being a party advertisement website, would it be accepted to have sponsored links connected to services as Taxis, alcohol brands and Hotels, which are directly connected with the party business and would be useful for the webpage’s viewers?

    Thank you for your time

    R.

  • We do have an advertising program called WordAds, which you can read more about here:

    WordAds

Advertising outside of WordAds, in any way, at WordPress.com is not allowed. For full details, please see:

    Advertising

    http://wordpress.com/types-of-blogs/

If you require other advertising, you might be interested in a self-hosted (WordPress.org) installation. There are no restrictions on advertising if you setup a self-hosted WordPress.org blog instead of a WordPress.com blog, but there are some added responsibilities. Please see this link to learn about the differences:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

    Hi,

I have read a couple of similar cases in the forums, and i think i should start by clarifying some things:

My website has 11000 total views, all because of the content i posted there and it’s not my intention (and neither will happen because my content is much more valuable to the viewer) to drive traffic to other websites.

I’m really not interested in changing to wordpress.org and like written before, also not into activating WordAds.

Knowing that, would it be possible to insert a side menu widget, containing useful links, which would be a extra help for the interested viewers – my website informs about the parties happening on a specific day, thus a link for a taxi company or a hotel would complement the type of information already present in the website, posted by myself. All of this is to increase the quality of my website, by offering more options.

I just read the affiliate links description (http://en.support.wordpress.com/affiliate-links/) and it seems, for me, that these proposed links i referred above are allowed in wordpress.com

    Could you confirm that, please?

    Thanks

  • Affiliate text links are allowed within the context of posts/pages, but not in the sidebar or widget area. Affiliate image ads are not allowed anywhere.

So if my posts and pages contain nightlife information, it’s logic that hotel, taxi and alcohol are within the context, because people use them before or after going to parties.

For several reasons, the posts & pages title information, is quite short and straighforward, therefore is not possible to include the affiliate links in this area.

The only place i can include them is as a custom menu, in the sidebar.

Is it possible to clarify where exactly it is referred that these affiliate links can’t be in the form of menu and widgets? I can’t see it in any of the restriction rules….

    Regards

you are going to have trouble here – your posts are just an ad for some event – no real content other than a picture – by your own admission you want to drive traffic to other sites, such as Taxi companies etc – so with just a picture that says “party at freds” in a picture – adding a bunch of affiliate links would make your site like it is just driving traffic to other sites which is against the Terms of Service – they want to see real writing and content – not just a “party at Freds” picture with a bunch of affiliate links

Note also that staff-blorbo is staff and has been here a long time and I have always known him to give straight advice – so his no links in the sidebar should be valid

your site is in violation of the terms of service anyway since you have deleted the footer credits – that is a suspend your site problem

just my observation from several years helping in the support forum – you won’t be real happy here and will probably have TOS issues just based on your description of what you want to make your site look like

Thanks for the several hints dear Auxclass

First of all, i read about this footer credits issue in some other wordpress forum and seemed to me that by hiding the footer credits, it was not considered a violation, as the author permitted his theme to be into wordpress and under gpl license. If i’m wrong, please provide me an accurate information, which i quite appreciate as i want my website to be as clear as possible

Regarding the traffic, i’m sorry, but, in my opinion, you are getting the wrong picture : My site views are due to the interest in getting this party event information and it’s simple form: If they see it with just a dozen of words in the titles and mainly pictures, it is my choice and my method.

“adding a bunch of affiliate links would make your site like it is just driving traffic to other sites which is against the Terms of Service”

My interpretation of this is the following: you are presuming that people that would go to my website, most of them would just click on the affiliate links and not care about the content of my website.

In the Affiliate Links Policies & Safety is written:

“Sites whose primary purpose is to drive traffic to affiliate”

What my stats show is the opposite, moreover most of my views stick to the home page, because the viewers get satisfied (or maybe they are lazy) with that information (and i have stats claiming that). So the idea that most of the viewers would just go to the affiliate links which i would like to insert and ignore the rest of the information, it is, in my perspective, quite far from reality.

Sorry for another curious question, but is there a percentage of clicks per total views or a statistical tool that defines if a wordpress website is violating the first restriction of the affiliate links P & S?

Thanks and sorry for such long text

Dear bryanvillarin, thanks for the attention.

You really, REALLY just want to get paid hosting somewhere, install WP.org software, and blog away there. That’s the model you are thinking of; you have chosen a host where that is impossible. So change hosts and the problem goes away.
