Sponsored guests

I have been approached by someone to write a sponsored post on my blog. I believe you may get payment for this. My question is – how do they pay me if I am on a free plan?

  • Hi there,

That is something you need to sort out with them – we do not act as intermediary in any private transactions you might have with other users.

I would just caution you to be very careful in providing any personal information to such a person. It could just as well be a phishing attempt as a genuine offer.

    Hi kokkieh,
I discovered that I can only receive payments if I have business plan, which I cannot afford. I replied to the person offering to write, and he has not responded since!
So I guess you were right.
Thank you for your time and response.
    Alex

  • You only need the Business Plan if you want people to be able to purchase products directly on your site with an online store. You don’t need any WordPress.com plan to set up a PayPal account and provide someone with your email address so they can pay you directly via PayPal, or via a PayPal button on your site. Or to send them a Bitcoin address so they can pay you with Bitcoin.

And nothing prevents you from giving someone your bank account details so they can make a direct payment to you, or your postal address so they can mail you a cheque. I’d be hesitant providing by bank account or contact info to a stranger who contacted my via the web, though.

This is a private transaction between you and someone who wants to pay you to write about them. It’s not someone buying a product from your site, so there’s no reason this needs to go through your site at all :)
