Spotify links show large blank space within embed on free domain
-
Hello,
I utilise WordPress to operate a music news and journalism blog that relies on embedding Spotify links for readers to stream new releases within our articles.
Within the past several weeks I’ve encountered a problem coinciding with a forced transition to the Blocks editor (I’m unsure if the two changes are related) where all Spotify embeds now display considerably larger/longer than before, and consequently show a large empty/unneeded blank space on all posts. Is there a way to resolve the issue and change the size of the Spotify embed? During my search for a resolution I have seen a comment in a forum that suggests adding CSS information via Customizer, however I do not have access to this under the free plan.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is a function that I rely on being able to utilise on my site and I’m worried that I may have to move to a different hosting platform if the issue is not able to be resolved.
Thanks in advance,
Sam -
Hi Sam, would you be willing to share links to a post that has the before effect, from the old editor, as well as one from the new editor?
We’ll take a look and let you know what options we’d recommend.

Hi supernovia,
Thanks so much for your response.
Here are links to two articles from my blog that show how Spotify embeds would previously display (a small player with left alignment);
And here is a link to a newly published article featuring a Spotify embed that now displays a large empty space at the bottom of the player;
Any guidance regarding this would be greatly appreciated as I’m imminently intending to upgrade to a premium plan, though fixes/workarounds for the issue will largely dictate my investment.
Thanks again,

Thanks for the details, Sam.
Unfortunately, this is a known issue. It has been reported already to our developers, so hopefully, we’ll have a fix soon.
For now, I saw reports from other users that the block is displayed correctly when the Resize for smaller devices option is disabled. Could you try and confirm if that fixes it?

Hi Fresatomica,
Thank you for the response. I’m glad that there’s the likelihood of a fix for this in the foreseeable future. I’m not familiar with the facility that you’ve mentioned above where would I find it to test?
Thanks again,
Sam -
Hi Sam, tap on the Spotify block, then look for the block settings in the right toolbar. You should see a Resize for smaller devices there. Can you give that a shot?
And thanks for your patience on this! I didn’t realize this was an issue, but it looks like staff-mckluskey has seen it before!

Hi supernovia,
Just attempted this on the article shared above and it looks to have worked.
Thank you both so much for your help!
Sam
