Spun theme: How do I make my recent post the homepage?
-
So I have an issue here and I’ve been attempting to browse the forums for a solution but have not found one:
I have a webcomic site and I would prefer to have the most recent post pop up on our home page when you first visit (a style typical of most webcomics). Is this possible with the Spun theme? If not, can I at least use CSS to redirect the home page to our most recent post?
The site is BamnComics.com. As you can see, the first thing you get is a synopsis. I would like to completely change that to our recent comic.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can display posts, latest first, on any WordPress.com theme. To show posts on the front page, make the appropriate change at the top of Settings > Reading. CSS is unnecessary. If you do so on your site with the Spun theme, the front page would look like the homepage of the Spun demo.
Are you asking to display only the latest post on the front page? That might be possible with CSS customization.
The Panel theme is more suitable for comic strips. See the following relevant support pages:

Sure. In any theme, under Settings > Reading, make sure the front page is set to display your latest posts. Right now, your front page is set to display a static page. As soon as you switch that back to “Front page displays > Your latest posts” and add one comic per post, it should look more like what you want.
Let me know if you need further help!

Oh, and if you only want one post displayed on the homepage, on Settings > Reading, set this number to 1:
“Blog pages show at most”

Thanks, Kathryn and musicdoc. I tried what you suggested but the theme seems to only give me a summary image, not the complete page. Unfortunately, what I am looking for is to have the full post pop up on the front page, not just a circular featured image. Is there anyway to get around that?

Thanks. I guess I momentarily forgot about that. The trouble is, though, that when I just tried that on my test site with the Spun theme activated, it didn’t work. I have three published posts, none of them are sticky, and I set the maximum number of post to display at “1.” However, all three posts display on the front page.
@ bamncan,
You’re welcome.I tried what you suggested but the theme seems to only give me a summary image, not the complete page.
That is what this theme does. Perhaps with CSS customization you could modify the display of the featured image(s) on the posts page.

Nope – as musicdoc said, Spun displays a circular image on the homepage; that’s what this theme is all about. :) If that doesn’t suit your needs you’re probably better off choosing another theme. Have you checked out Panel, which musicdoc1 suggested earlier? It’s actually designed specifically for comics and has a couple of cool features.

@ kathrynwp,
Perhaps you missed my note above regarding the failure of the “Blog pages show at most” setting at Reading Settings to work on my test with the Spun theme activated. This might be a bug. Links to all of the posts display on the posts page, regardless of the choice of maximum posts to display at Reading Settings.

musicdoc1 – I tested Spun; it respects “Blog pages show at most” when Infinite Scroll isn’t active. When it is active, it loads posts on the blog index in batches of 15, which is mentioned next to the IS setting. Because of the way Spun displays posts in those circles, it can appear as if more than 15 are loading at once on a larger screen.

@ kathrynwp,
Thanks. I had infinite scroll activated, as it is by default I guess. Consequently, the posts page displayed every post regardless of the maximum posts to display setting. I only have four posts. Disabling infinite scroll was the key.
