spurious half-dashes

  I’ve noticed, recently, after drafting a page or post, spurious half-dashes appear, usually before/after , but also in the title and in the titles in the sidebar. They are not visible in Text View, but appear when Previewed and Published, (e.g., -help- where ‘help’ is italicized).

  Sometimes I can edit them out by backspacing and retyping a space, but in the case of their appearance in the sidebar, even though they are removed from the actual title, they remain thereafter in the sidebar (e.g., under Recent Posts: Too-Soon).

  I am using a MacBook Air, OS X 10.10.2

  I do notice this happening in the Recent Posts widget:

  Is it happening anywhere else on the public version of your site? I don’t see it in the post titles for example.

  It looks like this is being caused by a non-breaking space in between two words of your title. Are you perhaps copying and pasting the title from another source or are you typing it straight into WordPress.com?

  I typed in the most recent title; then, when I saw the half-dash, I edited the title; it was removed from the title, but remained in the sidebar. All the rest of the half-dashes are new; I don’t recall seeing them a week or so, ago, or earlier.

  And what is so strange is that when in Text View, I see only a space, not the dash, but there it is in Preview and Published.

  I don’t recall seeing it before upgrading to OS X 10.10.2 the other day. Could it be related to that?

  So far, I do’t see the half-dash appearing elsewhere (e.g.,Notes) and I don’t see it on another site (gotcll.com) where I last posted 1/31/2015, but that was before the OX X upgrade.

  Hi there!

  This is likely related to how your font is ‘seeing’ the non-breaking space. We insert non-breaking spaces between the last two words of titles to avoid orphans (a single word on a line).

  The font you’re using is one we no longer support for your theme. When I tested the Twenty Ten theme with other fonts this does not happen. So, your best option here to update your Body Text font to one of the other fonts available for your theme.
