SQL database

    Hi – I’m sorry if this has been answered somewhere already. I’m pretty computer illiterate – but someone else is helping me to switch from wordpress.com, where I have a free blog, to an independent site (using wordpress). I want to migrate my old posts from the wordpress.com blog to the new blog. I followed the instructions and did a php export, but apparently what I need is that same database in SQL form. Can you help me to do this?

    You should not need the database in SQL form, and because of the differences between WordPress.com and a local install of WordPress it probably would not be very good.

    There is an export option in the dashboard under Manage > Export

    To import using this there is a plugin http://www.technosailor.com/wordpress-to-wordpress-import/

    This import functionality will be included in the next major release of WordPress.
