Square Crop Leaving Unwanted Border

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,
I’m trying to crop images in the Media library –> Edit –> Crop and using the “Square” option. When I do this, my image saves with an unwanted black border on the bottom edge. If I use the freeform cropping tool, this does not happen. How can I use the Square option so that it doesn’t leave a border on the bottom?

Additionally, if I edit and image in the Media library does it automatically update it in the post in which its used?

    Thank you!

  • Hi there!

I had a look at your media library, but I do not see any image with a black border. Have you already removed it from there? If you still see it, could you share a link to the image or a screenshot of what you see on your end?
You can use an online tool for that (such as https://snipboard.io/) and paste the link into your reply.

if I edit and image in the Media library does it automatically update it in the post in which its used?

No, if you edit the image in the media library, a copy will be saved there. You will then have to change the image used in the post.

Hi! I just remade the image here: https://findtheperfectbalm.files.wordpress.com/2021/06/knc-1-e1623323591381.jpg

The one that I cropped freeform and does not have a border is here:

    Thank you so much!

  • Hi! Would you be willing to let us attempt to crop the image on your account?

I suspect that, depending on the image, the bounding box for the crop might be extending just barely past the bottom of the image. If you shrink that just a bit to ensure it’s not going past any of the image edges, do you see the black line still?

Yes; that was exactly right! Thank you so much for that perfect suggestion!

  • I’m glad you’ve got it. Cheers!
