    Hello @almjohn,

Firstly, it would be nice if you can share the url for site you are facing this error for. It helps us guide you better.

It is important to know that WordPress comes in two flavours- WordPress.com & WordPress open source software. I know this can be confusing, but there are two types of WordPress. If you want to know more about the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org you can read this document:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

If your site is hosted on the open source WordPress.org software, I suggest you take your question to a much experienced open source WP forums:
    https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

If your site is hosted with WordPress.com, they automatically install SSL certificates from Let’s Encrypt on all WordPress.com sites:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/https-ssl/#how-do-i-install-an-ssl-certificate-on-my-wordpress-com-site

In the meanwhile, here is a possibility I could think of if your site is hosted with WordPress.com.

    Possibility:

Why is my site missing an SSL certificate?

Our automated process adds SSL certificates from Let’s Encrypt shortly after the registration or mapping of domains. Because we add SSL certificates for our domains in batches, it may take up to 72 hours to add an SSL certificate to your site.

For mapped domains, SSL certificates are only added after you add our name servers to your domain.

At the least I hope I could point you in the right direction go support.
