Well, when an SSL certificate is pending for an extended period after transferring a domain, it could be due to several reasons.
This are steps you can take to resolve the issue:
1. Check DNS Settings
- Verify that your domain’s DNS settings are correctly configured with your new hosting provider. Ensure that:
- The A record points to your server’s IP address.
- The CNAME records (if any) are correct.
- Propagation of DNS changes can take up to 48 hours, so ensure the settings are correct and fully propagated.
2. Ensure Domain Verification
- Many SSL providers require domain ownership verification. Check if there’s a pending email or action to verify your domain.
- If you’ve missed the verification request, you might need to resend it from your hosting control panel or SSL management interface.
3. Check Certificate Status
- Log in to your hosting account and navigate to the SSL section. Check if the SSL certificate installation is stuck or requires manual action.
- If you’re using a platform like cPanel, there may be logs or error messages explaining the delay. Look it up.
4. Clear HSTS Conflicts (if applicable)
- If the domain previously had an SSL certificate with HSTS enabled, it might cause conflicts. Check your hosting documentation for steps to temporarily disable HSTS and reinstall the certificate.
5. Contact Support
- Reach out to your new hosting provider’s support team. Provide them with the details of your domain and mention the delay in SSL issuance. They can check for backend issues or escalate the matter to their SSL provider.
6. Check Let’s Encrypt Logs (if applicable)
- If your host uses Let’s Encrypt for SSL, ensure that:
- The server is reachable via HTTP.
- There are no restrictions like IP blocks or rate limits on your domain.
- Let’s Encrypt has a status page to check for ongoing issues.
7. Reissue the Certificate
- If all else fails, revoke the pending certificate and request a new one from your hosting dashboard.
Best of luck and if you can keep me posted on how it goes.
- Verify that your domain’s DNS settings are correctly configured with your new hosting provider. Ensure that:
