SSL certificate not automatically working with WordPress

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi there,
Last year we needed to hook up a SSL cert so the site was secure, the WordPress SSL cert didn’t automatically kick in when required though? So I ended up having to purchase a third party certificate. I’d like to make sure the WordPress cert works when the purchased one expires in a couple of months.

    Thanks, Celia

  • Hi there,

Sorry for any confusion. To clarify, in order to apply SSL to your domain, you would need to host your site with us directly. Due to the limitations of how hosting works, it is not possible for us to configure SSL to work on a domain that is connected to a site hosted elsewhere. To have a domain with a secure ‘https’ address on your site while you are hosting with MyHost, you will need to use the SSL they provide on their end.

That said we’re happy to host your site, and SSL is added for free on all sites hosted on WordPress.com. If you would like to move your site from your current host to be hosted with us, it will have a secure https address by default.

If you would like to move an exact copy of your site (with no changes) you can use our plugin to manage the entire migration for you: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wpcom-migration/

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
