SSL Certificate with custom subdomain

  • Unknown's avatar

Wordpress.com says that it can take up to 72 hours to install a SSL certificate to my site, after creating a custom subdomain. I have promoted this custom subdomain to be my ‘primary domain’, but the only SSL certificate is the *.wordpress.com one, which is failing in browsers because of HSTS. Can someone get in touch with me to confirm that the LetsEncrypt SSL certificate is going to be successfully installed. It has been almost 72 hours.

    Hello @elifeldman,
All the sites on WordPress.com has SSL enabled automatically, whether you use a free *.wordpress.com subdomain, or your own custom/mapped domain. It doesn’t cost anything extra, and you don’t need to do anything to activate it. We use certificates issued by Let’s Encrypt.

    Hope it helps!

  • Hi there,

Our system is trying to add an SSL certificate for the subdomain, but it fails with an error that the domain is not hosted here.

Please log in at your domain provider or whoever is hosting the domain’s DNS, and make sure that your CNAME record for the blog subdomain is correctly pointing to paribusco.wordpress.com. Also make sure that there aren’t any other DNS records, like A or TXT records on that subdomain that might be causing a conflict.
