Start up issue
-
Hi there,
I just started the process and I wanted to use a domain name I already have. SO, I selected the Domain Connection option to begin. This is because I DON’T WANT the ‘.wordpress.com’ naming in my website. From https://wordpress.com/support/domains/incoming-domain-transfer/
‘Domain connection (also known as domain mapping) means that instead of your site address being a WordPress.com subdomain (like yourgroovysite.wordpress.com), you can make your site’s address something like yourgroovydomain.com without the WordPress name in the address.’After clicking on the ‘domain connection’ option, it took me to the payment page which said my website would be have the ‘.wordpress.com’. I cancelled the options and there is no order to be paid for..
How do I set it up so it is only my website (from one.com) without the word press? Did I miss something? Is the ‘.wordpress.com’ extention just temporary? Is the ‘.wordpress.com’ invisible to people who come to my site?
I am totally new to this. Thanks in advance for your guidance,

Thank you George for the quick reply.
So, only after I get the WordPress pro subscription will I be able to attached my own domain name? After I get the subscription, am I able to switch back to a lower tier subscription which would require use of the .wordpress.com extension?

If you’re OK with the features of the free plan and only need to use a custom domain, then the STARTER plan ($5/month, billed annually) should be sufficient.
See pricing plans here: https://wordpress.com/pricing/

Yes, you can downgrade or upgrade in the future. But as you indicated, when you downgrade to the free plan, you’ll back to using the .wordpress.com subdomain.
