Hi,
I’m new to blogging and WordPress. I’ve set up my account, and written a couple of articles. I’ve linked it to Facebook and also another website I use. Trouble is, these are all people I know. What is the best way to attract neutral followers to my jottering?
Also, I wish to read articles from other users, but where do I find these? I’ve read the site help, but am still a little lost, so a little help in getting started would be much appreciated.
Thanks very much,
Mike

If you haven’t done so yet I recommend that you verify ownership of your blog with the big 3 search engines using the instructions found here. > http://en.support.wordpress.com/webmaster-tools/ I also recommend that you bookmark the link for the support documentation as you are bound to be using it frequently.
Attracting readers and receiving comments are related issues. What’s important to grasp is that “build it and they will come” is a fallacy. If you want to increase readers and receive comments, as we all do, then you must be sure your content is being indexed and comment, comment, comment on other blogs in the same niche.
In blogging interesting content is the main attractor: content is king and marketing is queen. If you write high quality original content and promote it then the result may be an increase in organic traffic and comments, or not. If it’s not easy to locate your content in search engines then there will be no increase in new traffic. Thus, what determines success is two things: whether or not your content is found; and whether or not the readers who do find it become subscribers.
To attract an initial traffic flow that will hopefully convert into regular readers and subscribers who do comment, new bloggers who already have good writing skills and interesting content to blog about need to focus on:
1. 1. Learning and understanding SEO (search engine optimization) and optimizing blog post titles, sub-titles, text with keywords, as well as, optimizing images, and learning how to tag effetively; <//i>
2. 2. Mastering self sufficient use of the blogging software they use and additional tools and resources;
3. 3. Choosing a niche, becoming active within it, forming relationships with others in that niche, and staying with it.There are 10 standard tips to gain traffic and comments. :
1. 1. You need to have expertise in a niche.
2. 2. You need to know how to write very well.
3. 3. You need to structure a reader friendly and search engine friendly blog by learning how to apply basic SEO (search engine optimization) elements and techniques.
4. 4. You need to build an archive of high quality original content and keep adding to it.
5. 5. You need to update your content frequently with new posts in order to hold reader interest.
6. 6. You need to learn how to promote your content effectively through social media, social networks and RSS feed sites, thereby encouraging other bloggers to backlink to your posts, so your blog can earn authority and PageRank.
7. 7. You need to comment, comment, comment on other blogs in the same niche regularly.
8. 8. You need to form relationships with other bloggers and create a blog centered community around your own blog.
9. 9. You need to encourage your readers to comment on your posts, and you need to respond to their comments ASAP after approving them.
10. 10. You need to participate in blog carnivals, forums, online groups and blog carnivals within your niche, and you need to become a guest blogger on blogs with a higher PageRank than your own blog has.I am an experienced blogger with a blog that has authority in it’s niche and a credible PageRank. My blog is aimed at learning how to blog, becoming a better blogger, building a better blog, and effective blog promotion. As posting an active link to my own blog here may be perceived as shamelessly promoting my own blog in support threads, I won’t do that. You can click my username, if you wish to find my blog.
We also have a Showcase forum where you can promote your blog. It’s here > https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/showcase and the support documentation has this entry > http://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-more-views-and-traffic/

I sent you a message on your blog (which is very good) if your managed to read it.
Would you mind having a read of my articles? As I said, I’m completely new to this, and is actually the first pieces I’ve ever written. Some opinions would be really helpful in pointing me in the right direction.
Thanks again,
Mike

There are lots of “I need a critique” threads in the Showcase forum, so I suggest you try that. Also, for more tips, use the search box here. TT and other volunteers have posted more than a thousand tips here over the past several years.

I have just found, thankyou. To be honest, I’m not entirely sure what I’m searching for.
