  All I want to do is create simple HTML files with text, pictures, videos and internal hyperlinks. I can’t see any way to do that.

  Did I just waste $50?

  That’s not the way wordpress works. WordPress is a CMS or Content Management System and it doesn’t work with html files. You only have to add content to your site and wordpress creates your site in the backend?

  I don’t suppose there is any chance I can get a refund. I only signed up a few hours ago.

  Can I use the domain I registered with another host?

  You can always cancel your purchase – https://wordpress.com/support/manage-purchases/

  If you want to use your custom domain on another hosting, you certainly must not cancel your domain – https://wordpress.com/support/manage-purchases/#manage-domain-purchases
  Due to ICAN regulations you can’t move your domain to another provider for 60 days after registration but you can forward it.

  But why don’t you give wordpress a try? Believe it’s much easier to set up a site over here than writing your own html and css files. All themes over here are responsive meaning they adapt to the screen size. Good luck if you want to this yourself …
