Starting a blog…. I thought there was a ‘how-to’ page
-
Hi Guys,
Calling on your memories and expertise. It is some months since I have had an opportunity to be on the site, and more than 12 months since I set up the blogs I already have.
I would like to set up a new blog now, but cannot remember how it is done, and having now spent hours looking around the site, and reading the forums, I am still none the wiser as to the process.
For instance, I cannot work out what I need to put in the ‘Blog domain’ box, or is that now irrelevant, since I already have others?
And basically from there on, is there a step-by-step page which I have missed?

You don’t put anything in the “BLOG DOMAIN” box until you buy the domain upgrade, which you don’t need.
Just go to your Global Dashboard, which you can reach by scrolling to the top of the page; see your grey Admin bar? Global Dashboard is on the far left, under “My Account” and “Register another blog” is one of the options on the page there, at the bottom on the right.
-
Thank you raincoaster…. that answers that question.
But nowhere under My Account >> Global dashboard can I find the words “Register another blog”. Not even words which are vaguely similar and may mean the same thing.
I can however finds lots of other things, none of which seem to tell me what I want to know. I really am all at sea over this one.

Still can’t work this out. Thought I got what raincoaster meant, but when I hit ‘ceate blog’ it came up with an error message.
Here is where I am trying to do:
*In the address bar of the window it says that I am in http://en.wordpress.com/signup/
*The title of the page is ‘Get another WordPress.com blog in seconds (I’ve been at it for hours!).
*Next is a box called ‘Blog Domain’. In the box it has the default ‘myblog.wordpress.com’ Following the instructions above, I left this as is.
*Next is ‘Blog Title’ – and here I put the name of my blog – Tasmania.
*Language default I left as it is.
‘Privacy’ I left as it is.Then I hit ‘create blog’ and it came up with a message (in red) in the ‘Blog Domain’ area, which says ‘Sorry, that blog already exists’.
Where do I go from here? what am I doing wrong?
-
Ah, thank you. You are trying to use a blog name that someone else has already registered: in this case, four years ago:
http://tasmania.wordpress.com/
The fact that they didn’t use the blog doesn’t matter to WordPress.com. Blog URLs are NEVER reused here. Pick another name.
-
And then, where do I put it, in the Domain box, or in the Title box?
And will it automatically come up with my other two blogs – Lifemagician and My trip 2009?
I am just confused what goes in which box…. the domain box and the title box. What is the title of my blog and what is the domain of my blog….. or are they one and the same?
Finding another name will not be a problem.
-
You pick a totally different name, whatever you like.
The DOMAIN box is for where you put what you want to show up as the address, like http://whatever.wordpress.com and the name that’ll show up will be whatever’s blog. You’ll have to change that under Settings->General to Whatever or whatever you like.
I’m not sure what you mean by “come up with” your other two blogs? It’ll be accessible via your Admin bar just like the others are, provided the others are hosted here at WordPress.com and you’re using the same ID as administrator on all of them.

Great, thank you so much. I decided on RoadTripTasmania, that way I can add any future trips down there to the same blog. (Thinking positively!! lol)
Now may I ask one final question. Is there a cut off time for when blog entries can be edited. Am I able to put an entry in now, and add a map and photos, say in two or three weeks? or whenever? and if so, can photos then still be inserted into the text, or will they only go at the end of the text?

There’s no cut off time for when blog entries can be edited. You can edit them any time! And, you can insert photos at any spot inside the content area.
