Starting a particular website, possible with WP?

  I am planning on creating a specific website which I won’t go into details but give an overview. I do not have any knowledge in html or different coding. However I have created websites through godaddy’s website builder and what not. When it comes to ideas and creativity I believe I am really strong even though I have no coding experience.

  Anyways, I would like to create a website where people can create an “account” and they can share “stories” to everyone else. And the top stories that have the most thumbs up would come on the first page. Secondly, the users should be also able to upload videos.

  So I would like to create this website and many people have recommended WordPress, however, many also say that WP will not be able to support such features as I described. So I am writing to ask if this is actually possible to do without any coding experience.

  Some of that confusion could be the fact that there are different kinds of wordpress:
  http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

  What you are describing cannot be done on wordpress.com, but could be done on wp.org. But you may need to learn a bit of coding. Or hire someone who can assist you…

  What you are trying to do will be both time-consuming and expensive. Security will also be a challenge, when you allow people to upload video files. Basically you want to create a multi-blogging platform combined with YouTube. Why would you think this would not be difficult?

  I have never said it would not be difficult, I surely do think it will be difficult. Can anyone confirm if my idea can be established through wordpress.org?

  Yes, with sufficient effort. In fact, you will want to google “WordPress MU” which is basically designed to do this. You may also want to look up Buddypress.

  you could use Wiki
  It allows multiple updaters
